Rev
21:
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for
the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her
husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne
saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with
them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their
God.
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor
pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."……
9 Then came one of the seven angels who had the
seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, "Come,
I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb."
10 And he
carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy
city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God
The dispensationalists are big on teaching about
jewish wedding customs, i.e. the groom comes to get the bride and bring her
back to His dwelling place where he has prepared a place for her.
Well, here in Revelation we see the bridegroom
bringing His bride down from above to His dwelling place with man on the earth.
The eschatology of the Darby/Schofield crowd is
just plain awful.
Galatians
4:
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is
our mother.
27 For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren
one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For
the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a
husband."
28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children
of promise.
29 But just as at that time he who was born
according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so
also it is now.
30 But what does the Scripture say? "Cast
out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not
inherit with the son of the free woman."
31 So,
brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.
