Jeremiah 23:
16 Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain
hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
17 They say continually to THOSE WHO DESPISE THE
WORD OF THE LORD, 'It shall be well with you'; and to everyone who stubbornly
follows his own heart, they say, 'No disaster shall come upon you.'"
18 For who among them has stood in the council
of the LORD to see and to hear his word, or who has paid attention to his word
and listened?
19 Behold, the storm of the LORD! Wrath has gone
forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back
until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his heart. In the latter
days you will understand it clearly.
21 "I did not send the prophets, yet they
ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in my council, then
they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned
them from their evil way, and from the evil of their deeds.
Amos
8:
11 "Behold, the days are coming,"
declares the Lord GOD, "when I will send a famine on the land— not a
famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.
12 They shall wander from sea to sea, and from
north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but
they shall not find it.
2Timothy
4:
3 For the time is coming when people will not
endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for
themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
4 and will turn away from listening to the
truth and wander off into myths.
We
live in a time where God’s word, i,e, the revelation found in scripture alone,
is no longer enough for the visible entity which claims to be the church. Never
mind the fact that they have done absolutely nothing with the biblical
revelation when it comes to teaching, understanding, or implementing it. The rule of thumb being, when one cannot come
to a knowing of what God has actually spoken, simply move on to the next “new
thing”. So it goes year after year, new “moves of God” with new sloganeering
and marketing ploys. Such ministries must come up with new prophecies else the
cash flow dries up. As Jeremiah has spoken, these alleged prophets speak to
those who despise God’s Word. These are those who buy every new book and dvd
available, yet they have a dozen versions of the bible on the book shelf
collecting dust.
The
famine spoken of in Amos is not a famine of which is a lack of God’s Word, it
is a famine of hearing hearing God’s Word. There are plenty of words being
spoken in the name of Jesus, and those who run to every conference and “life
changing event” in search of such word will no doubt find one they can latch
onto; but, it is not God who has spoken. They will perish from lack of true
nourishment.
Isaiah
5:13 Therefore my people go into exile
for lack of knowledge; their honored men go hungry, and their multitude is
parched with thirst.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered, "It is written,
"'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the
mouth of God.'"
